That Bitch, Comparison

That Bitch, Comparison

Fear, Mindset
I recently interviewed a heroine of mine, Jasmine Star - photographer and branding expert - a woman made from moxie, beauty, grit and what I can only imagine is fairy dust. She admitted to struggling with what I would call, comparisonitis. That she had been afraid there’s not enough room for herself and her fellow sisters. Someone has to get out of the elevator. But we know that the truth is; the only thing there is no room for is comparison itself. Her words stuck with me (may be because of the baked goods association): “It isn’t that there’s just enough of the pie to go around. There’s a whole freakin’ BAKERY of pies to go around!” So let’s talk about this. If someone as wildly successful as Jasmine can…

What Makes You, You?

What Makes You, You?

Mindset
Today's words of wisdom come from Wildfire Woman, Lola Hoad of One Girl Band. Thea read this in Lola's newsletter and knew we had to share it with our tribe! Take it away Lola ;) Something I’ve been exploring lately is what makes you, you. We’re told we should be 100% ourselves, be authentic, be true, but what does that really look like? When I was younger, I was quite insular, unconfident and a little bit insecure. I would subconsciously change my personality depending on who I was hanging out with. For example, I would pretend I was obsessed with Harry Potter because all of my school friends were, when really I just wasn’t that into it (sorry HP fans!). Growing older and riding into those first awkward teenage years,…

Why are we doing this?

Why are we doing this?

News
"Why are we doing this?" He asked. Not sharing my vision, I at first took it as a slight on my grand plans. But before I let my ego have it’s way and defend itself, I remembered. We’re doing this because it’s time. We're coming together to share our stories, to be seen, to deepen our identities as individuals and as a group. We’re gathering round to hold each other in a trusted space to share and find our purpose. Held together by sisterhood, we’re creating an opportunity to bring out the most tender parts of ourselves so that they may be healed, so that others can heal. Our vulnerabilities transform into strengths. Our insecurities become badges of honour. It is by joining in sisterhood that we can transform ourselves…

Wildfire Women: Sarah Wade’s Story

Wildfire Women: Sarah Wade’s Story

Career
The first in our series of personal stories from our Wildfire Women is from Sarah Wade, co-author of two books and founder of Find Your Dream Job - a blog that shares the stories of other inspiring people who have pursued their career dreams. Take it away, Sarah! Looking for a shift in my own life I signed up for a food writing course with the hope of trying out a freelance writing career. It quickly became apparent that I was a novice amongst real food experts. But each week a guest was invited in from the food industry and every Thursday at 8.00pm I observed someone who was in love, engaged and excited by what they did for a living. It was a revelation to me, a total antidote…

What happens when we give collaboration a chance

What happens when we give collaboration a chance

Fear, Mindset
More connected than ever? We live in a hyper-connected world. There are apps today that help solve problems you didn’t even know you had and enough social media networks to keep you busy all day. But are we missing out on real, human relationships? Collaboration over competition We’ve been brought up with Darwinian ideas that only the fittest survive - it’s ‘each man (or woman!) for themselves.' But the truth is, even at a very basic level, the vast majority of businesses are part of a much bigger value network made up of various providers, manufacturers, logistics businesses, distributors, retailers as well as the customers themselves. The ability to communicate, collaborate and connect with others is fundamental to any single business' success. So… why is it so easy to forget…

The 7 Misconceptions Keeping You Stuck

The 7 Misconceptions Keeping You Stuck

Mindset
Today’s guest post comes from Wildfire Women speaker Ebonie Allard, who is busting these misconceptions we've probably all experienced from time to time - and helping us get unstuck. Take it away Ebonie! I hear you, you feel overwhelmed, like you’ve never got any time, like you can’t remember who you really are any more and if you’re honest, life feels hard! But, what if I were to tell you that there are 7 misconceptions that are keeping you stuck? There may well be many more, but these are the seven biggest misconceptions that I see over and over. It is my intention to help you get clarity, feel more confident, have greater courage and as a result also be calmer more of the time, so that you can live by your…

One Way To Tackle Your Public Speaking Fear

One Way To Tackle Your Public Speaking Fear

Confidence, Fear
Today's guest post comes from Annik from Pony Express Speakers Club - who knows a thing or two about facing up to the fear so many of us have... public speaking. Take it away Annik! One of my clients threw a little tantrum the other day. She felt nervous about speaking, and wanted those nerves gone. Immediately. I think some of us can relate to that, right? As speakers, it can be frustrating to feel the familiar sensations of fear time and time again, perhaps long after we tell ourselves we should be over it. The racing heart, the shaky legs, the sweaty palms. We want them gone. Banished. So we can get on with the important business of communicating our message. So we can feel free. Growing up, I…
